A little while ago, I was shocked at a textbook published by the McGraw-Hill Co., Inc. [which carries a description of the “comfort women”]. The situation in which this textbook is used in the US is a result of the fact that we did not make a point of stating what should be stated, or that corrections of perception that should have occurred the sake of international society did not happen. International society does not have a high opinion of modest countries, so we should assert what should be asserted. It is a fact that the number of lawsuits that bring dishonor on Japan is increasing. In order to deal with those lawsuits, I would like to establish a Litigation Bureau to work on these matters in a strategic manner. At the same time, in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and in our diplomacy we will strive to have international society develop an accurate understanding and will publicize the facts strategically and effectively in order to promote our national interests.
