In a program on NHK on the 14th [of September], with regard to the Asahi Shimbun’s withdrawal of the late Seiji Yoshida’s testimony about “comfort women”, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said, “The Asahi Shimbun has to do better than this.” He pointed out, “The article said that Japanese troops burst into people’s houses and kidnapped children to force them to work as comfort women. Some countries take this as being an historical fact and monuments have been built that are critical of Japan.” He added, “We need to do something to counter the thinking that’s out there.” “Diplomatic relations come into play, so once they are set, it is extremely difficult to change fixed ideas.
